CLUELESS GOVERNMENT

Ever since the Narendra Modi Government came to power in 2014 the country has been running amok. The first stint ended drastically yet dramatically with the Balakot Airstrike in retaliation to the Pulwama attack which took place on 14th February, 2019. The Balakot airstrike which was considered as a preemptive by the Indian Air Force (IAF) targeting Jaish-e-Mohammed camp saw no casualties on both sides. The big blow to India was the shooting down of our own Chopper in Budgam, Kashmir on 27 February which was shot down by Indian Air Defense Missile killing all six Indian Air Force personnel on board and its information concealed until recently. Whether or not the IAF killed terrorist sbut the infamous ‘Cloud Radar Theory’ of PM Modi wherein he suggested that the clouds could have helped shield Indian Air Force aircraft from Pakistani radars during the Balakot airstrikes awed many to this day. The Pulwama attack left the country in shock and in great distress. And ironically, the leader of the pseudo-nationalists was busy doing photoshoot with Bear Grylls of the Man vs Wild-the show which was televised worldwide recently. The Pulwama attack happened between 3.15-3.30 PM. And while Mr. Modi had all the time to address a rally at Rudrapur over phone at 5.15 PM. He made his first condemnation on Twitter only at 6.40 PM!

And so that’s how Mr.Modi and Co. secured a second term with more numbers than 2014 taking mileage of the Balakot Airstrike. Not much can be credited to the Modi Government in its first term. The only credible achievement was changing the names of 33 schemes initiated by the UPA Government. Notable of which are the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Pahao’ earlier known as ‘National Girl Child Day Programme’ started in 2008, ‘Make in India’ earlier known as ‘National Manufacturing Policy’ started in 2011, ‘Digital India’ earlier known as ‘National eGovernance Plan’ started in 2006, ‘Skill India’ earlier known as ‘National Skill Development Programme’ started in 2010 etc. And to add to the misery, the reckless policies of the Government such as the DEMONitisation and the GST completely wrecked the country’s economy. Former PM Dr. Manmohan Singh had earlier cautioned that DEMONitisation will bring down the Country’s economy by 2% and true to his word the economy today stands at a fudged 5% GDP. The 2015 India GDP rebasing by the NDA 1 lifted the growth to 6.9 per cent for 2013-14 instead of 4.7 per cent as estimated earlier and while India clocked double-digit growth of 10.3 percent in 2010-11 it has been revised to 8.5 percent. Former RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan and Former Chief Economic Advisor Arvind Subramanian has also raised concern over this and the latter stating that the GDP growth was overestimated by 2.5%.

The second stint started on a weak footing though the Government has an indubitable majority in the lower house of the Parliament. Presenting the Union Budget, the FM carried the budget documents in a ‘Red-Bag’ in what is known as ‘Bahi-Khata’ instead of using a Briefcase in an attempt to break away from the traditions of the colonial past although she presented her entire budget speech in English inside the Parliament which was built by the British! The GDP was expected to grow at 7.5% in the first quarter however the data released by the Government showed quite the opposite.  Today, the Bank Frauds have gone up by 74%, Government tax revenues are falling, the GDP is the lowest in 6 years and trailing behind Pakistan and Bangladesh, Manufacturing sector growth is down to 0.6%, Construction is at a low of 5.7%, Agriculture is at a low of 2.0%, Automobile Sales have dropped by 19% with fall in sales, Maruti recorded 33 % fall in sales, Tata Motors fell by 58% in sales while Honda Cars India recorded 51% fall in sales, Growth of  8 core industries- coal, crude oil, natural gas, refinery products, fertilizer, steel, cement and electricity dropped to 2.1 % in July, Rupee is the worst performing currency in Asia and Unemployment is highest in 45 years. Business giants such as Rahul Bajaj, Chairman of Bajaj Auto, Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chairman of Aditya Birla Group, AM Naik, Larsen & Toubro Chairman, Adi Godrej, Chairman of Godrej Group have raised serious concern over the failing economy. And while the whole country is grappled with the economic crisis. We have a Finance Minister who is clueless about how the Government will spend the Rs.1.76 lakh crore it stole from the RBI under the patronage of Mr.Shantikanta Das who has a record of being the first and only RBI Governor with a degree in MA History! Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to go again on foreign tour to receive award from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. This will be his 104th Foreign Nation Visits (including repeated trips) in just 5 1/2 years and while back at home, he is busy with his party’s rallies and programmes. Now, what leaves us clueless is who is actually running this clueless Government?

The Impending Catastrophe

“ W e have a heart but we also have a brain” -   Zoran Milanovic, Croatian Prime Minister. The ongoing Migrant crisis in the European Union has triggered a worldwide attention and has also drawn flak from among the member states over the policies adopted by the Union with policy makers trying to make a constant change to contain the influx of migrants with time. The discovery of the dead body of a 5-year-old Syrian boy washed ashore sent a shock wave to everyone including the international community. This was the talk of the virtual world for quite some time pouring in sympathies from all over the world. The influx of migrants flocking to the European Union seems to be never ending and till date, tens of thousands of migrants are flocking to the European Union with little or no hope at all for survival. While taking a look at the migrant crisis from the humanitarian perspective, the migrants have literally no option but to flock elsewhere for survival. The entire M...

THE TWIN EVIL

W hen the USSR disintegrated in 1991 marking the end of the feud of two antagonistic blocs- the US and the USSR. There emerged two schools of thought. Francis Fukuyama, an American Political Scientist advanced his theory that there is literally no threat to the United States of America post-cold war through his publication ‘The End of History and the Last Man’  which was an expansion of his earlier publication ‘The End of History?’. Starting from the end of the Cold war till the Twin Tower attack; this era is often considered as the ‘Era of Uncertainty’ for the US Foreign Policy. He further opined that the fall of Communism in Central and Eastern Europe and the disintegration of the USSR has contributed to the triumph of Western Liberal Democracy as the sole Political Ideology and the ultimate form of Government. The other school of thought was led by Samuel P. Huntington, another renowned American Political Scientist who in his famous publication ‘The Clash of Civilizations’ arg...

All Is Not Well II

A nd so it’s a wrap-up! The conclusion to one of the most dramatic and ostensibly the most sensational elections in the democratic world. Elections may be over but the fervor has not yet died down. The ostentation of show of strength by the political parties during the elections still rings in the ears of many. The 17th Lok Sabha elections were unprecedented. Because while the opposition chorused on the issues of unemployment, weak economy, agrarian distress, demonetization, GST and a host of other issues. The ruling dispensation for the first time chose to fight on the issues of terrorism, national security, and hyped nationalism! The Congress led by its president Rahul Gandhi rallied on the Rafale Deal accusing PM Modi of giving 30K Crore to Anil Ambani. Rahul’s jibe at PM Modi ‘Chowkidar Chor Hai’ almost became the de-facto slogan of the opposition parties. This further prompted PM Modi to prefix Chowkidar to his name which was follow suit by his Council of Ministers as well as su...
